Edible Abingdon @ Old Station House

2023 update

On 7 July 2023 a work party was convened to move all the recycling boxes to a more prominent site next to the walkway which goes right under the arches of Old Station House. Jeff, the wonderful activities officer for Old Station House, had built some new raised beds there, and since then has encouraged residents to take part in gardening them, and has populated them with models of birds and wildlife. Take a look at the relocation and planting day here!

Old Station House

In 2016 we started a new venture: can we grow vegetables in old recycling boxes? The management of Old Station House offered us a wonderful, sunny sheltered site on the South of the building, facing Old Station Yard, and even installed 2 water-butts for us! The result? Lots of veg, lots of interest from the residents and passers-by, and a gong for the “Most Improved Garden” for OSH from the Order of St John Care Trust.

This year we will be adding a raised bed made from old planks sourced from Oxford Wood Recycling in Suffolk Way, Abingdon.
