Our programme of monthly meetings and other activities is organised by a Core Group of willing volunteers who meet once a month.
Core Group members include:
Linda Coker (Treasurer) has been treasurer of Abingdon Carbon Cutters since 2012. She works in the accounts department of a local company.
Fiona Habermehl is a vegetarian & committed ‘foodie’ (& cake maker) whose aim is to save the world by growing her own fruit & veg! She shares this in weekly volunteering family cookery sessions using food-bank donations @ South Abingdon Children’s Centre.. She’s interested in social cohesion & sustainability.
Sally Reynolds (Secretary) is a Quaker, an allotmenteer and a grandmother, and hopes her grandchildren at least grow up knowing where their food comes from and how much work has gone into growing it. She retired as a GP in 2013 and now spends her time sending carbon-cutters emails, adding pictures to the website, and helping out with Edible Abingdon.
Richard Riggs has lived in Abingdon for nearly 40 years, and formerly worked in physics and electronic engineering; so he is comfortable with energy issues, and worked on the Abingdon Hydro project. He is a member of Christ Church Abingdon, which has joined the Eco Church initiative, and he hopes that will make a real difference.
Anne Smart has lived here for 37 years and is a retired Social Worker. In January 2018 she and others started Abingdon Cuts Plastic, a subgroup of ACC. Our aim is to encourage as many individuals, businesses and organisations in the town to join us in our campaign to reduce single-use plastic in the town, and to gain the status “Plastic-Free Community” by the end of 2019.
Caroline Townsend (Chair) is a secondary school science teacher and mother of two. She has been Chair of the Core group since 2018, writes the quarterly newsletter, is involved in reducing plastic in the town and helps with the Repair Cafe. Caroline endeavours to promote an environmentally sound future for all life on Earth.
