Oxford University run micro-internships for their students – they are short-term work-experience placements aimed at developing professional skills. ACC has participated in Oxford University’s micro-internship programme several times –
- A student monitored traffic pollution on Stert Street in 2016,
- Some students analysed plastic use in Abingdon’s businesses in 2018
- John and Cliff hosted the two students that looked at money and carbon-offsetting in 2020. (See Emily Passmore’s: Carbon Footprint of Money)
Oxford University are keen for us to offer regular placements to students to increase their employability in the green sector. Anne and Caroline are hosting the latest micro-internship; two students are spending 5 days in December devising a questionnaire for businesses. They will ask how people travel to work in Abingdon, and consider ways to reduce the use of cars. They will write a report of their findings which will be useful in construction of Abingdon’s neighbourhood plan.
