Oxford University run micro-internships for their students – they are short-term work-experience placements aimed at developing professional skills. ACC has participated in Oxford University’s micro-internship programme several times –
- A student monitored traffic pollution on Stert Street in 2016,
- Some students analysed plastic use in Abingdon’s businesses in 2018
- John and Cliff hosted the two students that looked at money and carbon-offsetting in 2020. (See Emily Passmore’s: Carbon Footprint of Money and Luke Hatton’s: Report on Carbon Offsetting and Slides).
Update June 2021: Oxford University are keen for us to offer regular placements to students to increase their employability in the green sector. Anne and Caroline hosted a micro-internship in December; two students devised a questionnaire for businesses. They asked how people travel to work in Abingdon, and considered ways to reduce the use of cars. The report of their findings is available here (pdf) – it has been shared with the Town Council and used to inform Abingdon’s neighbourhood plan.
Anne and David are currently hosting a placement which aims to investigate why some people drop litter.
