Growing things

Growing food and flowers without chemicals helps keep our environment healthy. In the last few years the Vale of White Horse District Council have offered us various sites on Abbey Meadow to showcase this.

The Wildflower Maze between the playground and the river hums with insects on sunny days.

The “Bee-Beds”  by the children’s playground are a riot of colour and attract lots of bees and other important pollinators.

“Edible Abingdon” is a programme to grow vegetables in small spaces – by the kiosk on Abbey Meadow,  outside Old Station House. and in Abbey Gardens.

Gardening without using plastic can be tricky – but not impossible! Download our Plastic Free Tips for Gardeners here. And yes, we know the picture above features plastic containers but these ones are re-purposed so we hope we’ll be excused!
