Abingdon Draughtbusters is a new, FREE service provided by Abingdon Carbon Cutters, who work alongside One Planet Abingdon.
It has been funded by a Vale of White Horse District Council Climate Action Fund grant. Referrals can be made to us from agencies such as Better Housing Better Health, Citizens Advice Abingdon and The Community Connector Team.
The goal of the service is to provide basic assistance with draught proofing measures, to help people feel warmer in their homes, help them reduce their energy usage and thus their carbon footprint. We aim to prioritise those who are most vulnerable and need that extra bit of help.
We have 4 amazing volunteers (all DBS checked and insured) standing by to help the residents of Abingdon and nearby villages.
Budget allowing, we are hoping to run the scheme, initially, for 6 months, having started in mid Nov 2023.
Example of things that we can do:
- Fit door, window and loft hatch draft proofing.
- Seal gaps (which are not needed for ventilation).
- Draught proof letter boxes.
- Bleed radiators.
- Provide general heating and condensation advice.
