    1. Permaculture Introduction Day
      10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Rachel Hammond of Incredible Edible Oxford will lead this one-day Introduction to Permaculture in the lovely surroundings of Stonehill Barn and Community Garden. There will be talks, films and activities to allow you to discuss and learn the basics of permaculture and find out what it is, involving:

      • Mapping and assessing sites
      • Exploring the design process
      • Redesigning your lifestyle and landscape

This is a one-off opportunity to find out about permaculture without having to travel miles, and at the heavily subsidised cost of £10 each.

To book your place (maximum 15 people) email carbon.cutters@gmail.com.

Wear warm clothes and stout shoes, bring rainwear if it’s wet, and a packed lunch. Hot and cold drinks will be provided.

    1. How to Improve Local Air Quality
      7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Abingdon’s air quality has been a cause for concern since an assessment in 2005 which showed air pollution in parts of the town centre had exceeded national air quality objectives due to the levels of nitrogen dioxide from vehicle emissions.

Rachel Roberts, Air Quality officer for the Vale District Council, and herself an active member of Abingdon Carbon Cutters, will tell us about her work.

What are the hotspots for air pollution in Abingdon? How is our air quality monitored? What can we all do to improve it?

We may hear from a group of student consultants from Oxford University who have been looking into how school students get to school, and finding what would encourage more parents to leave their cars behind.

      Come and join the debate!

As usual there will be coffee (or tea), cake and excellent conversation.
