The S.E.E. Justice, (the Social, Economic and Environmental Justice Group) of Oxford Quaker Meeting are hosting a presentation by George Lakey entitled “Time is running out! – Strategy to accelerate the climate justice movement” on Wednesday 18th October 2017 at 7pm in central Oxford.
George is a veteran civil rights activist and educator. In 1963 he was arrested on a civil rights action in the United States. George has been involved in many campaigns since then including the movement to end the Vietnam War, LGBT rights and environmental activism. He has developed a series of education programs for activists including Training for Change in 1991. George founded Earth Quaker Action Team in 2009. Among his many awards are the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Award and the Giraffe Award for ‘Sticking his Neck out for the Common Good.’
Born 79 years ago in the USA, his most recent teaching post was at Swarthmore College, as Visiting Professor for Issues in Social Change.
The presentation will be at the Environmental Change Institute, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QY. Doors open at 7pm.
Fossil Free Oxfordshire will be giving a short talk on fossil fuel divestment and how you can get involved in the local divestment campaign.
